100 Thieves vs Team Liquid – LCS Match of the Week (2019 Spring)

Published on: 31/01/2019

Who’s going to win the 100 Thieves vs Team Liquid matchup? Our League of Legends experts break down the second LCS match of the week of the 2019 Spring Split! 100 Thieves seemed to have a lot going for them coming into the competition, but they quickly came down to earth once the action started. Their synergy is almost non-existent, and they have a hard time putting together a solid game plan. To make matters worse, their players seem to be performing way below their usual standards, so 100T are in a weird spot where they look much, much worse than they should.

Of course, Team Liquid aren’t perfect either. They made a fair share of mistakes in their week 1 showings, and while they did win both of their games, they still have many things to work on. But Team Liquid’s shortcomings are completely overshadowed by their strengths. This is a superteam in every sense of the word, and every single player here is capable of producing a world-class performance. Combine that with veteran shot calling, and it’s not exactly surprising that TL are the favorites to win the 2019 Spring Split.

100 Thieves vs Team Liquid LCS Match Breakdown

Top Lane Matchup

The top lane can be a bit unpredictable in this 100 Thieves vs Team Liquid LCS matchup. 100 Thieves’ Ssumday is far from his peak, as evidenced by his 1.0 KDA and 8.6 CS per minute. However, his ceiling is undeniably high, and we know full well that he can single-handedly break open games on a wide range of tanks, carries, and bruisers.

Meanwhile, Impact only shines on tanks. With a 9.0 KDA and 7.0 CS per minute, Team Liquid’s top laner made a name for himself by being a rock-solid role player that gets through the laning phase and makes his presence known in teamfights and skirmishes. Someone like that won’t be able to expose Ssumday’s weaknesses, so we’re going to have to give the edge to 100 Thieves.

VERDICT: 100T Ssumday finds a lead in the top lane.

Jungle Matchup

Things are even trickier in the jungle. Despite what his 1.2 KDA and 4.8 CS per minute might indicate, AnDa had a decent showing in the first week of the LCS. 100T’s jungler has a natural knack for pathing, so he had no issues setting up invades and capturing more jungle camps than his opponents. However, he struggled to find ganks and pressure the map, so it remains to be seen whether he can convert his individual leads into something that benefits his entire team.

100T NA LCS Predictions

Xmithie doesn’t suffer from the same issue. Sporting a 7.3 KDA and 5.3 CS per minute, he knows exactly where (and when) he needs to be to tip the scales in Team Liquid’s favor. On top of that, he went against his reputation of a herbivore jungler by showing up with two explosive Lee Sin performance, and no amount of pathing knowledge is going to save AnDa from a player of this caliber.

VERDICT: TL Xmithie conquers the jungle.

Mid Lane Matchup

The mid lane is going to be very one-sided in the 100 Thieves vs Team Liquid LCS matchup. With a 1.2 KDA and 7.9 CS per minute, 100T’s Huhi had a rough start to his 2019 Spring Split. Not only did he fail to set up his trademark roams and cross-map plays, but he routinely fell behind in CS and gave away free kills to his mid lane counterparts.

Unfortunately for him, Jensen is the apex predator. Holding an 11.5 KDA and 8.8 CS per minute, Team Liquid’s mid laner is a mechanical prodigy that takes every opportunity he can get to punish his opponents. Combine that with his ability to dominate teamfights, and Huhi has no hopes of keeping up with him.

VERDICT: TL Jensen breaks through the mid lane.

Bot Lane Matchup

Things won’t be any easier for 100T in the bot lane. Holding a 6.0 KDA and 9.5 CS per minute, Bang is still a world-class marksman that routinely tops the damage charts in teamfights and skirmishes. However, he has no idea how to work together with Aphromoo (1.0 KDA), and it’s common to see 100 Thieves’ support get caught out in the river while Bang is peacefully farming in the bot lane.

Team Liquid’s duo doesn’t have perfect synergy either, but they’re miles ahead of their opponents. With an 8.7 KDA and 9.4 CS per minute, Doublelift has the perfect combination of game sense and mechanical prowess to outmuscle just about any marksman in the league. And while CoreJJ (6.3 KDA) can get sloppy with his positioning, he makes up for it with strong teamfighting and decisive playmaking.

VERDICT: TL’s Doublelift and CoreJJ win the bot lane standoff.

100 Thieves vs Team Liquid LCS Match Prediction

100 Thieves have their backs against the wall. They’re outmatched individually and strategically, so we wouldn’t be surprised if they spent the entire match on the back foot. Our prediction is a confident victory for Team Liquid!
