Fantasy LCS Cheat Sheet – Six Advanced Tips And Tricks

There’s a lot to love about fantasy LCS. Whether you’re just having fun with your friends or planning to make a profit on DraftKings or FanDuel, participating in a fantasy league can significantly enhance your LoL esports experience. And it’s for this reason that thousands of esports fans sign up for daily fantasy contests every year.

In our previous League of Legends fantasy betting article, we provided a comprehensive look at the fundamentals of LoL esports fantasy. Now it’s time to go deeper! Strap yourself in because we’re going to share expert tips and tricks that will give you an edge over your opponents!

1. Look Up Fantasy LCS Stats

Fantasy LCS revolves around drafting good players, and stats are a great way to evaluate player strength. Platforms like DraftKings tend to provide metrics like FPPG (fantasy points per game) or OPRK (opponent’s ranking) for League of Legends matches, but these aren’t nearly enough to make an educated decision. Head on to Oracle Elixir and get familiar with stats like KDA, CS per minute, kill participation, CSD10 (CS difference at the 10-minute mark), damage share, and average damage to champions per minute.

Once you’re done, it’s time to put these numbers to use. For instance, a top laner with a low kill participation, but a high CS per minute and positive CSD10 is likely a splitpusher that spends most of his time away from his teammates. So even though he plays a valuable role on his team, he isn’t likely to rack up a lot of fantasy points unless, of course, he smashes his lane opponent. In this case, you’d be better off drafting a high KDA and kill participation top laner even if he is less impactful than the abovementioned player. On a similar note…

2. Separate Skill From Fantasy League Value

A good player doesn’t necessarily make a valuable fantasy league prospect. For instance, someone like Huni is great at bullying his lane opponents and drawing jungle pressure, but he also tends to die a lot as a direct consequence of his aggressive playstyle. With that, Huni’s very likely to cost you fantasy points, so avoid drafting him unless you’re going for a high-risk, high-reward strategy.

In a similar fashion, don’t pick good players on bad teams. It’s not worth it. Even if a talented player is doing everything in his power to carry, there’s still a very good chance he’ll end the game with a mediocre KDA if his teammates aren’t up to par. And that means you will get very few fantasy LCS points for your trouble. Remember, League of Legends is a team game, so a single carry will rarely—if ever—make up for the shortcomings of his teammates. This brings us to the next point…

3. Analyze Team Matchups

This doesn’t really apply to the contests where you draft a team for the duration of the entire LCS split, but most fantasy leagues only last for a handful of games. Hence, predicting which teams are going to come out on top will be a key part of your strategy. After all, players on winning teams are much more likely to have a good scoreline and earn you a bunch of fantasy LCS points.

You can learn more about predicting a winner in our League of Legends betting guide. The short version involves following LoL esports matches, keeping track of player performance, looking up reputable expert opinions, and expanding your game knowledge. Taking in so much info won’t be easy, but that’s the price you have to pay if you want to dominate LoL esports fantasy contests.

4. Keep Up With The News

Things outside of the game can be just as influential as what happens on the Rift. The world of esports isn’t as physically demanding as traditional sports, but injuries and emergency substitutions can still happen, so stay on the lookout for any last-minute announcements. The same applies to sudden roster moves. Hell, even a temporary change like a team giving some stage time to its Academy players can spell disaster to your fantasy LCS chances.

It’s also worth following player and coach interviews since they tend to share their thoughts on strategy and team dynamics. You can find out more about this topic in our League of Legends news article, but rest assured, staying up to date with everything going on in the scene will dramatically increase your odds in LoL esports fantasy contests.

5. Recognize When To Take Risks

It’s common to run into large-field fantasy contests with massive payouts to winners or top performers. If you want to participate in these, you’re almost obligated to take risks. With so many punters taking part in the same league, playing it safe and drafting reliable players like Jensen or Bjergsen is no longer the optimal strategy since everyone else will be going for them as well.

Instead, try building your fantasy team around sleeper picks that can blow the favorites out of the water in the right circumstances and with a bit of extra luck. Sure, the variance will be high, but that’s something you have to accept when you enter a large-field fantasy league. And if your ragtag bunch shows up, the risk will pay off big time.

6. Stay Sharp, And Stay Patient

In the end, your success in fantasy leagues will largely come down to yourself. Once you get familiar with the scene and fill in the gaps in game knowledge, the only thing left will be making the right calls. Don’t get complacent, and don’t skip steps. At times like these, patience is the biggest virtue, and while breaking down every single matchup may seem tedious, it will bring you success in LoL esports fantasy.
