LPL 2020 Spring Finals update, odds & predictions

Posted on April 17, 2020

The 2020 LPL Spring regular season is soon coming to its conclusion, with matches scheduled every day from now until the 20th of April. Due to the Coronavirus delays that had first hit China, and hence the LPL, Playoffs have been fast-tracked. Riot has revealed the 2020 LPL Spring Playoffs will take place only 2 days following the conclusion of the regular season, with the first game scheduled on April 22nd.

While teams usually get a few days to rest, recuperate and prepare for playoffs, Riot has made the decision to instead, fast track the tournament to prevent future delays to international events later in 2020 (Worlds & MSI).

When are the LPL Spring finals?

The finals are still quite far away, with Playoffs set to last an intense 10 days and finals set to be played on the 2nd of May. This is obviously quite late, with the LPL 2019 Spring Playoffs finals match in comparison being played on the 21st of April.

Who will be attending Playoffs?

Currently, seven of the eight teams have been locked in for the 2020 LPL Spring Playoffs. A handful of teams are in contention for the last spot, with the last few deciding games in the coming days to determine the final team.  The primary contenders being Oh My God, Bilibili Gaming, Team WE and Rogue Warriors. All the mid-tier teams are close to each other in terms of skill, with consistent wins and losses against select teams.

The exception only being World Elite, whose inconsistencies in defeating some of the best teams are widely contradicted to their losses against the worst. This surprisingly may allow World Elite to attend Playoffs if they have a good day, especially considering their recent losses have been very close in which three of the last four games had reached the final match in the Best of Three sets.

Spring Playoff Predictions

As the final team has yet to be locked in for Playoffs, no specific individual match predictions can be made yet. However, judging by Invictus Gaming’s 12-2 record in the regular season, we can expect them to without a doubt be the strongest contender for the title and a ticket to MSI. Invictus has played extremely well throughout the whole tournament, with their only two losses against fellow top teams, eStar and JD Gaming.
