Misfist vs Origen – LEC Match of the Week (2019 Spring)

Posted on January 23, 2019

Misfits and Origen face each other on January 25! Both teams are powerhouses in their own ways, and their battle is sure to become the LEC match of week 2 of the 2019 Spring Split. Misfits Gaming had an explosive debut by overwhelming their opponents from the first minutes of the game. The sheer amount of individual talent here is impressive, but it’s the way Misfits come together as the ultimate early game machine that makes them stand out from the competition.

Origen adopted a more measured approach. Their players are strong individually, but instead of using this strength to dominate the laning phase, they seek to outmaneuver their foes in the later stages of the game. Combine that with smart drafts, well-timed rotations, and intricate Baron setups, and Origen might even give the likes of Misfits a run for their money. That is, if they hold off the early game onslaught.

Misfits vs Origen LEC Match Breakdown

Top Lane Matchup

This might come off as a surprise, but Alphari is likely the weakest player on Origen. That’s not to say he’s bad. With a 2.7 KDA and 7.7 CS per minute, he had a great showing on Swain against Fnatic, but he also failed to stand up for himself on Sion against G2 Esports. All in all, Alphari is still trying to find his role on Origen, so it remains to be seen whether he can be the lane-dominant carry he once used to be.

Meanwhile, sOAZ’s position on Misfits is well-defined. Sporting an 8.0 KDA and 7.5 CS per minute, he’s the sacrificial lamb of the team—a top laner that goes through the laning phase with the fewest resources possible and tries to make his presence known in teamfights. For any other player, this would be a hard pill to swallow. But a battle-hardened top laner like sOAZ is all too familiar with this role, so he’s not going to give Alphari any openings to capitalize on.

VERDICT: MSF sOAZ secures a small edge in the top lane.

Jungle Matchup

Signing Kold might be the best move Origen could’ve made. His 1.8 KDA and 5.4 CS per minute may not show it, but he’s doing a ton of work for his team, and his thought-out paths and confident ganks act as the pillar of Origen’s early game. With that, he would be the favorite in most games, but the Misfits vs Origen LEC matchup might be out of his reach.

Maxlore put on a clinic in his games. Holding a 22.0 KDA and 4.8 CS per minute, Misfits’ jungler has the creativity and the mechanical prowess to continuously blindside his opponents with unorthodox routes. Throw in the pre-existing synergy with his side lanes, and Maxlore is already looking like one of the best junglers in the league.

VERDICT: MSF Maxlore runs away with the jungle matchup.

Mid Lane Matchup

Origen’s mid lane is akin to an immovable object. Despite what his 2.3 KDA and 9.0 CS per minute might indicate, Nukeduck is a seasoned veteran who has the perfect combination of experience and natural talent. On top of that, he has the widest champion pool in the LEC, so he’ll have no issues outmaneuvering most EU mid laners.

Febiven is no pushover either. Sporting a 17.0 KDA and 9.1 CS per minute, he’s been playing a supportive role on Misfits so far, but he can switch to hard carrying in the blink of an eye. His mechanics are on point, and he’s even put someone like Faker on the back foot during his prime. That said, even Febiven will struggle to put a dent into the rock that is Nukeduck.

VERDICT: OG Nukeduck conquers the mid lane.

Bot Lane Matchup

The bot lane will be the most interesting part of the Misfits vs Origen LEC match. On Origen’s side, Patrik might not set the world ablaze with his 1.8 KDA and 8.5 CS per minute, but he does a good job pressuring his opponents on lane-dominant picks like Draven and Lucian. More importantly, Mithy (1.3 KDA) seems to be back in shape, and he’s already making a splash with his aggressive trades and pinpoint skill shots.

The bot lane is the focal point of Misfits Gaming. Sporting a 22.0 KDA and 9.4 CS per minute, Hans Sama is downright overwhelming in the laning phase, and he might very well be the best early game marksman in the league. His dominance is further emphasized by GorillA (9.0 KDA), who never fails to set up his AD carry with excellent initiations. Sorry, Origen, but you’re outmatched there.

VERDICT: MSF Hans Sama and GorillA crush the enemy bot lane.

Misfits vs Origen LEC Match Prediction

Origen might hold a slight edge in the late game, but it doesn’t matter if they never get to use it. Misfits have all the tools they need to crush their opponents in the laning phase, and they’ll be sure to score another LEC victory!
