The 2018 Mid-Season Invitational (or MSI) is the second-largest League of Legends tournament. The competition begins on May 3 and lasts all the way until May 20. During this time, the first seeds from all competitive regions will battle for fame, glory, and, of course, the MSI trophy.

The tournament provides countless exciting opportunities for League of Legends betting, and our guide will tell you exactly what you need to do to make the most out of your money.

But first, let’s get familiar with the teams and the tournament structure!

MSI Play-In Stage

The Mid-Season Invitational kicks off with the Play-In Stage. You won’t find any lineups from Europe or South Korea here, as the Play-In Stage revolves around the teams from emerging regions. In the first round, Gambit Esports (CIS), KaBuM! e-Sports (Brazil), Rainbow7 (Latin America North), BAUSuperMassive (Turkey), Ascension Gaming (Southeast Asia), Dire Wolves (Oceania), Kaos Latin Gamers (Latin America Gamers), and PENTAGRAM (Japan) will fight through the group stage.

For now, it’s unclear how the actual groups will look, but the former four lineups have a clear skill edge over the latter ones. At the end of this battle, two best-performing lineups will advance to the second round where they will challenge EVOS Esports (Vietnam) and Flash Wolves (Taiwan). Both Vietnam and Taiwan are major League of Legends regions, so their teams have a slightly better seeding. That being said, they didn’t have great showings at the latest international tournaments, so they still have to prove their worth in the Play-In Stage.

MSI Main Event

When the Play-In wraps up, it’s time for the MSI Main Event. This is the meat of the tournament, as four first-place teams from the NA & EU LCS, LPL, and LCK clash with each other. To top it off, they’re joined by two best-performing Play-In lineups who will also try to claim the trophy.
At the time of writing this article, three out of four major teams have already qualified for the 2018 Mid-Season Invitational.

The list includes Team Liquid (North America), Fnatic (Europe), and Kingzone DragonX (South Korea). All of them will participate in a cutthroat group stage, but it’s really the playoffs that push the competition into the do-or-die territory. And the team that goes all the way to the last round and topples its final opponent will be crowned the 2018 MSI champion.
